Hi, I’m Christine!

Thanks for stopping by! I’m a pianist, organist, carillonneur, and music educator with a passion for making music accessible. As a Metro Detroit native, I’ve had the privilege of teaching and performing with a wide variety of  individuals and groups throughout the region. I specialize in private lessons for people of all skill levels, sacred music in both Catholic and Protestant traditions, and accompanying soloists and ensembles. With nearly two decades of experience as a professional musician, I’d love to help make your next event special or kickstart your music education journey.

  • Christine El-Hage Walters earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Sacred Music from the University of Michigan, with research focusing on the influence of Fairuz’s sacred music on the Maronite diaspora. She also holds a Master of Music in Sacred Music from the University of Michigan, where she was awarded the Marilyn Mason–William Steinhoff Scholarship in support of her studies.

Active as a church musician, Christine is honored to serve as the organist for Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (commonly known as Assumption Grotto) in Detroit. Prior to her appointment as organist at Assumption Grotto, Christine served as organist at Allen Park Presbyterian Church for 17 years.

As a college instructor, Christine currently teaches music theory at Henry Ford College and has previously taught musicology courses at the University of Michigan as a graduate student instructor. Passionate about music education, she maintains a vibrant home studio where she gives private lessons to students of all ages and spent six years teaching general elementary music in the Dearborn public school system.

Christine is also active as a carillon recitalist throughout Metro Detroit and has had the privilege of concertizing on the instruments at Kirk in the Hills, Christ Church Cranbrook, and Grosse Pointe Memorial Church. She can frequently be found at the University of Michigan’s Burton Memorial Tower, where she is pleased to perform on the Charles Baird Carillon as part of both their recurring weekday recitals and summer concert series.

In 2017, Christine earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Music Education from Wayne State University, where she received various scholarships for piano and academic excellence. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Michigan–Dearborn.

Committed to ongoing engagement within her field, Christine serves as a board member with the Detroit Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and is a member of the Organ Historical Society, American Guild of Organists, and the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America. Previous instructors include Tiffany Ng (carillon) and James Kibbie, Kola Owolabi, Todd Wilson, and Nicole Keller (organ).

In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, shopping, and spending time with her husband and their dog Bentley.
